Hi, my name is Nicola. I was born and brought up in Scotland (as a native English speaker) and now live in the south of France. I am an enthusiastic and passionate teacher and believe learning is enhanced when it is fun. I love learning about different cultures and foods. I enjoy walking, nature, history, travelling and teaching!
I have several years teaching experience. I am a Tutor of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL and TESOL qualified) and a Plant Medicine Educator (BSc Hons and PTTLLS). I have a Premier TEFL Certificate, an Advanced Teaching English Online Certificate and an Advanced Certificate in Online Teaching Practice. I also have the OET Teaching Award for teaching Medical English.
As an English tutor I have a natural curiosity and interest in people from different cultures and backgrounds. I have worked overseas for much of my life. I have a particular interest in health fields.
I like my students to feel relaxed and to have fun. Classes are tailored to your needs. Do you wish to focus specifically on listening skills? Then we’ll focus on listening exercises using recordings with different accents. Would you prefer to practice speaking? I can prepare role play exercises so you gain confidence in situations relative to your needs.
In general English lessons, I like to include a mix of activities with lots of conversation, some grammar and plenty of vocabulary exercises. Lessons will also include listening and reading practice.
In medical English lessons, I include a variety of medical English across different medical specialties. Individual lessons can be tailored to focus more on your medical specialty and interests. I am also qualified to prepare medical students for the Occupational English Tests for speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
I am currently taking lessons to improve my French language skills. I understand what it is like to be a language student.
